Jeanine Smith's 7th grade class wanted to make a difference, so they made books for a community project. Most of the books will be sent to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital but a few will remain at Harris to inspire future generations. Walt Wood (left), CEO of the Shelbyville-Bedford County Chamber of Commerce, was welcomed to the weekly meeting of the Shelbyville Rotary Club by Rotarian Rex Northcutt. Wood reported that three business prospects have visited the area in the past month, and that the Industrial Development Board is actively seeking proposed property to locate a business park. Wood challenged members to continue supporting The Celebration and the Tennessee Walking Horse, which are beloved parts of Bedford County and important aspects of the local economy.

Shelbyville Lions Club hosted a Chamber of Commerce coffee on May 29, recognizing the charter date of the club -- May 29, 1922. Displays were posted of the club's activities over the past 90 years.

Shelby Chapter DAR Regent Dixie Parker (left) presents a handmade gift for guest Gay Ervin of the Bedford County Agriculture Extention Service and Solid Waste. She stated that 41 percent of the 20 tons of garbage created each day in Shelbyville are a type of paper product. The paper and other items can be taken to several recycling centers in Bedford County.
