Pat Sanders of Shelbyville was the first winner in a series of Girl Scout cookie giveaways. Her name was drawn from among 49 people who purchased four or more boxes of cookies at booth sales on Feb. 9. A separate drawing will be held for each weekend. From left are Senior Girl Scout MaryGrace Dennis, Sanders and Junior Girl Scout Hope Dennis (dressed as a Samoa cookie). Sales will continue the next two weekends at Walmart and Kroger in Shelbyville.
Southside third grade teacher Mary Tim Cook found a unique way to review different skills using name tags. Her current set of name tags has contractions and solar system vocabulary words on the front. On the backs of the cards are what the contractions stand for and what the vocabulary words mean. Several times each day, students change and wear different cards to give them a chance to review other words. Cook said it is an effective way to keep the words in front of them all day while they are at school.
