Local 9/11 remembrances
Thursday, September 12, 2013
It's become a tradition in Shelbyville for law enforcement and emergency agencies to fly a large American flag across from Shelbyville Fire Department on Sept. 11 to mark the 2001 attacks on America. This year was no different as the flag flew Wednesday.

Third to eighth grade students at Liberty School wrote thank you notes to the Shelbyville Fire Department in honor of 9/11. School staff also baked pecan pies and cookies. Librarian Sarah Locke and assistant librarian Hilda Smith brought the items Wednesday to Fire Station No. 1 with the help of students Evan and Jack Conditt. In no particular order, are: Hilda Smith; Sarah Locke; Evan Conditt; Jack Conditt; Chief Ricky McConnell; Assistant Chief Charles Armstrong; Assistant Chief Brian Nicholson; Capt. John Young; Timmy Dixon; Justin Bird; Kenneth Holley; Eric Smith; Chris Cartwright and Terry Vinson.
