It's become a tradition in Shelbyville for law enforcement and emergency agencies to fly a large American flag across from Shelbyville Fire Department on Sept. 11 to mark the 2001 attacks on America. This year was no different as the flag flew Wednesday. (T-G Photo by David Melson)

Third to eighth grade students at Liberty School wrote thank you notes to the Shelbyville Fire Department in honor of 9/11. School staff also baked pecan pies and cookies. Librarian Sarah Locke and assistant librarian Hilda Smith brought the items Wednesday to Fire Station No. 1 with the help of students Evan and Jack Conditt. In no particular order, are: Hilda Smith; Sarah Locke; Evan Conditt; Jack Conditt; Chief Ricky McConnell; Assistant Chief Charles Armstrong; Assistant Chief Brian Nicholson; Capt.
