Flags wave across Bedford County for Memorial Day

Saturday, May 23, 2020

A lot of veterans have called Bedford County home throughout its history. Some returned home following war, other “heroes” would be buried in local cemeteries, where families wept at their loss. Fortunately, a lot of families here still recognize the sacrifices of past brothers and sisters in arms and apparently have a great deal of respect for their country. In honor of Memorial Day, which is Monday, we snapped some photos of a few (there are many, many) brilliant American Flags being flown respectively in our great city and county. As we remember such works as “In Flanders Fields” (poem from World War I) and significant historic moments, may our respect of our red, white and blue always remain not just a Memorial Day decoration, but one of honor and pride in Bedford County. The late rhythm and blues singer Ray Charles paid his own tribute, in his own style, to “America the Beautiful.” But now wait a minute, I'm talking about America, sweet America, You know, God done shed his grace on thee, He crowned thy good, yes he did, in a brotherhood, From sea to shining sea. Have a safe Memorial Day holiday.
