With the help of Southside Elementary School art teacher Andrea McTigue, student council members made posters to hang in the hallways to motivate students for upcoming TCAP tests. From left, Morgan McCormick and Allison LeMaster.

There is a tradition at Southside Elementary School every year around Easter. A jar of candy mysteriously shows up in the office. (Who knows? It could have been placed by the Easter Bunny!) Students get the chance to use their estimating skills to try to guess the number of pieces of candy in the jar. The student who guesses closest to the actual number wins the jar. This year there were 428 pieces of candy in the jar and there were two students, whose estimations were so close that they both were awarded prizes. Fifth grader William Tankersley's guess of 432 pieces of candy earned him 2nd place. Alex Rodriguez won the candy jar with the closest estimation, 430.
