Shelbyville firefighter Matt Doak directs city backhoe operator Michael Wilhoite in breaking up the parking lot Wednesday at the main Shelbyville fire station on Lane Parkway. The Chamber beautification committee presented its "Brighten Your Corner" award to the City of Shelbyville and to the Nature Conservancy for the recent tree and shrub planting at River Bottom Park along the Duck River. River birch, two different types of maple, two different types of oak, sourwood, fringe tree, sycamore, serviceberry and witchazel trees were planted with a grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
