The Shelbyville Rotary Club's program was presented by Missy Parsons of Homes of Hope, a local agency serving families in need. Parsons explained the priorities of Homes of Hope, which are child welfare deflection, child abuse prevention, and family support and stabilization. Lion Katie Guthrie and Leader Dog Representative Wanda Scroggins of Florala, Ala. -- who is also legally blind herself -- attended the Lions State Convention in Kingsport. The Lions club is accepting used eyeglasses at the local Sears store with Mike Winton and at club meetings. Most of the recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact.

Sylvia Pinson, director of Shelbyville Parks and Recreation, was a recent guest of Shelbyville Optimist Club. The club will help sponsor the Shelbyville Parks and Recreation Bicycle Rally at the Park Complex on Saturday. The Optimist Club will supply bicycle helmets to the first fifty children to participate in the rally with Pinson is Optimist Club member Jimmy Deason.
