Claire Garrell of Petersburg won the Tennessee District Optimist Club Speech Contest held recently in Johnson City. She was awarded a $2,500 college scholarship. She is pictured with Essie Johnson, former Optimist Club international officer and sponsor of the scholarship in honor of her late husband, Reverend Billy E. Johnson.
