Downtown Wartrace gets a facelift as workmen install new sidewalks, reproduction vintage streetlights, and move utility lines underground. The improvements, partially paid for with state matching grants, should be complete by summer's end.

Barbara Burchett is presented with a Certificate and DAR pin by Shelby Chapter Regent Dixie Parker at the June 27 meeting. Burchett's Patriot is her 5th Great-grandfather, Benjamin Lentz, who was born in South Carolina in 1755 and died in Bedford County in 1833. He took part in the American Revolution in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Harold Segroves receives a handmade gift from Shelby Chapter DAR Regent Dixie Parker as June's Program Chairman Theresa Gill stands to their left. Segroves served as guest speaker for June 27 meeting at Riverbend Country Club. Segroves referred to the book "Albion's Seed" by David Hackett Fisher during his program, "The Patriotic Man." He spoke of the four groups of people that came here from England, how they were different and what they contributed to our country. He spoke of the different cultures and people that are now coming into our country and how it will continue to change.
