Students in Susan Mason's fourth grade Social Studies class at Southside Elementary drew pictures and wrote letters to heroes to remember 9-11. Mason's son, Tanner, is in the Navy and students wrote to him and his friends. They also wrote letters of thanks to Student Resource Officer Bob Filer and to the fire department.

Bedford County Animal Control is giving away cats ages three and older this Friday and Saturday. Cats that are six months through three years old will be sold for $5. For more information contact Animal Control, located at 205 Lane Parkway, at (931) 685-1130.
Students at Southside Elementary met in the gym on Friday for the kickoff of their annual fall fundraiser: 40 Fun Friday. Students who collect $40 or more in donations get to stay after school and participate in different fun activities. Sal the Salmander and first grade teacher Regina Campbell do a dance during the kickoff....

First Community Bank is an event sponsor of the eighth annual Pet Day to be held Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Bedford County Agricultural Center. Highlights of the fundraiser to benefit the Shelbyville-Bedford County Humane Association are a dog show, dog demonstrations, vendors, pet photography and concessions stand. The Shelbyville Central High School National Honor Society leadership classes learned how to knit this year so that they may make scarves to donate to local hospices and nursing homes. Barbara Morgan teaches Darian Tipton the art of knitting.
Louise Armstrong teaches Garret Smotherman, Ocatvio Ayala and Preston Brown how to knit.
