On Saturday, Sept. 22, Renee Boyle proved that, as she says, "It's never too late to have fun." She started her 92nd birthday week by taking a motorcycle ride with her son-in-law, Terry Wright. Boyle has a resilience to adversity (she's a cancer survivor) and an ability to adapt to change (moved moved from Sarasota, Fla. to Shelbyville in 2009 to live with her daughter). (Submitted photo)

Born and reared in France, Renee Boyle endured the attrocities of WWII in her early 20's while living and working in Paris during the German Occupation. Following the war, Boyle came to the U.S. as an immigrant, studied English and became an American citizen. She had met her husband in Paris while he served in the Army after he landed on the coast of Normandy.

Charles and Lillian McCullough celebrated their 65th Anniversary at a reception held in their honor by their family on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Edgemont Baptist Church. The couple were married on Sept. 13, 1947 in Huntsville, Ala., and are long-time residents of Shelbyville.

To encourage professional growth of school board members, TSBA offers certified board member awards to those who invest time into becoming more informed and effective board members. The award is given for participation outside of local board obligations. There are five levels of recognition. Glenn Forsee received the Level IV award, and Dr. Andrea Anderson received the Level II award.
