Holiday spirit fills Community
Sounds of the season filled the air recently as Community Middle and Community High School celebrated "Christmas at Community," a holiday concert that showcased the combined talents of choirs and bands from both schools. Under the direction of Carolyn McGowen, the Community Middle School chorus began the evening with the performance of several light-hearted Christmas tunes, including "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus," and "Here Comes Santa Claus." The Community High School chorus, directed by Jimmy Bratcher, was accompanied by student musicians on piano, castanets and a whole guitar ensemble as it presented such songs as, "Baby It's Cold Outside." CMS band director Greg Napper then led the 6th grade band in four pieces, "Chorales for Elementary Band," "Jingle Bells," "Jolly Old St. Nick," and "Up on A Housetop." Following the 6th grade performance, Napper conducted the 7th and 8th grade band as it presented, "Ancient Carol (O Come, O Come, Emmanuel)," and "Let Heaven and Nature Sing!" The final group to perform was the Community High School band, under the direction of Bratcher. "Wonderful Christmastime," "Salvation is Created," and "A Holst Christmas" were among the pieces that rounded out the night's performances.
