Yellow flowers painted the streets of Bell Buckle Saturday during the 38th annual Daffodil Day. This annual event was named in honor of the thousands of daffodils that line the roads and farmlands for a 6-mile stretch of State Highway 82 leading into Bell Buckle. Local lore says that Sawney Webb (who founded the renowned Webb School in 1870) began the mass plantings over 100 years ago as 'character-building' discipline for some of the school's more challenging students. In the mid-1940's, former Webb janitor Eugene Brady, Sr. launched an ambitious five-year planting program to further beautify the town.
