Kids study cancer fight for school project
Fifth grade students of Kari Tisma at Eakin Elementary School worked on an end-of-year project in which they studied aspects of cancer treatment and research. The students broke into teams, each team representing a group involved in cancer treatment — patients, nurses, pathologists, oncologists, engineers, nutritionists and so on. Each team developed a display along a hallway at Eakin about the role played by its group. The project-based learning exercise was part of a S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) program.
