First Baptist Church on Depot Street gave away approximately 21,000 pounds of food on Thursday.
Volunteer Justin Smith sorts citrus into bags for distribution to ensure every person receives produce. Giveaway coordinator Tom Nixon said that about 250 families representing 1,350 people typically receive food during the church's giveaways. About 100 volunteers organize the food so everyone receives an equal share.
Young volunteers shuck and place ears of corn into bags.
A lot of empty boxes had to be stacked out of the way. David Kelley ensures no one "slips" on these empty banana boxes.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee delivered 23 skids of food. Driver Tommy Bryan loads one empty skid back onto the truck.
