The Bedford County Longbeards chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation had a "take a kid hunting" event on opening day of juvenile turkey hunting season, March 23. Participating youth went through the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency hunting safety course offered here in Shelbyville. Each young hunter was paired up with a one of the NWTF Longbeards members. Larry Thurston of TWRA was there to check the turkeys in for the hunters and to answer any questions they may have about hunting. Club members say hunting is a beneficial activity, using the slogan "If you take a kid hunting, you won't be hunting your kid."
