Quilts of Valor were recently presented to several local veterans by Amy Martin. “It’s been busy,” she said of the quilting work. Two of her veterans were father and son, representing World War II and Vietnam service times. Blankenship and Bell Buckle United Methodist churches participated in recent quilt presentations. Quilts of Valor is a foundation started by the mother of a serviceman. To date, the national organization has placed over 200,000 quilts in the 50 states. QOV strives to have all servicemen touched by war wrapped in the comfort. A veteran once commented upon getting his quilt, “As silly as it might sound for a soldier with over 3 years in Iraq and Afghanistan to say, that blanket became a true item of comfort and peace for the road ahead.”
