The T-G asked adults in downtown Shelbyville on Tuesday, "What can be done to make schools in Bedford County safer than they are now?"
Steve Smith:
I am sure that can make schools more safe for the kids. They could hire security guards to be at the front door and monitor those that go in
and out of the building more.

Clarence Lewis:
In my dealing with the schools I have found that the teachers and the staff are always looking out for the well being of the students and really care for their safety. The schools also keep the parents well informed.
I don't how they can be made any safer unless they put armed guards around the school.

Sam Gunter:
There are going to have to do something to protect the kids. They may have to hire armed guards to protect the schools.

Hope Cummings:
I think the teachers should be allowed to have guns in the classrooms.
Have the guns secured, of course, where the kids cannot get to it, but where they can get to the gun if they needed it to protect the students.

Amber Hilbenbrand:
I think that each school should have an entrance where they have to go through the office to get into the school.
Not for the students but everyone else that comes to the school. They should have to ID themselves and sign in. Also, more metal detectors would be fine also.

Jonathan Carter:
I think the schools could use some of the retired veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars to provide security in the schools. They are military trained in weapons and tactics and be more than happy to be in the schools and classrooms to protect the students.
