Rain did not stop a group of senior citizens from celebrating the Fourth of July Thursday at H.V. Griffin Park.
The picnic was originally planned inside anyway because of anticipated heat, according to senior activity director Cindy Allen, so those in attendance were not disappointed.
There was plenty of food, fellowship and fun -- including several games of "chocolate bingo," where all of the prizes consisted of chocolate.
Members of the senior citizens group at Shelbyville Recreation Center had lots of picnic dishes to choose from at their Fourth of July celebration on Thursday.
The Shelbyville Recreation Center staff posed for a patriotic-themed photo.
A young guest at the celebration eagerly plays a game of bingo for a chocolate prize.
Bernettia Nelson is all smiles as she plays reverse bingo, a version of bingo where everyone stands until the first number on their card is called. The last person standing wins, and Nelson was the eventual winner.
