The annual Halls Mill Sorghum Squeeze is a community festival built around a demonstration of making sorghum syrup. See video at https://youtu.be/5H0Mn42nok8.

Locally-grown sorghum cane is put through a mule-powered press, which extracts a watery juice.
-
The juice is carefully boiled down over a wood fire, with cookers skimming off foam and impurities.
-
-
The thick, sweet syrup is a traditional southern condiment, and jugs of it were on sale at the festival, along with various other craft vendors. There was also live music and plate lunches.
-
Live entertainment was provided in the form of musicians and cloggers.

-
There were a variety of craft vendors selling everything from pickled eggs to alpaca wool items.
