Southside evacuation drill
Friday, October 5, 2012
Students at Southside Elementary school held an evacuation drill last week, and for travelers on S. Cannon Blvd., this meant traffic was stopped so the children could cross the road safely. The emergency drills are required of each school, and in case of evacuation, students have a safe location to gather.
Southside principal Reita Vaughn oversaw the evacuation, praising students and faculty on their calm and orderly exit from the school building.
Vaughn and School Resource Officer Bob Filer oversaw the evacuation. Southside students crossed the highway and waited in the parking lot of Southside Baptist Church during their evacuation drill.
Teachers watched carefully over their students during their evacuation across the street.
It was a beautiful morning for this type of drill. Jacob Allsopp and Joshua Marise were in good spirits and enjoyed the walk in the sun.
