Sharp-eyed Times-Gazette readers might have seen a local face in Sunday's issue of Parade magazine, which is included in the print edition of the Times-Gazette and more than 500 other newspapers each week. Calvin Cannon, whose program to provide prom tuxedoes to needy young men received a grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project, can be seen in a montage of grant recipients on the first page of a two-page Pepsi ad in the magazine. ...

Sweet Pea Academy Preschool's float won the Grand Marshal's award in Saturday's Shelbyville Christmas Parade. First place went to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Pam Smith Painting and Shelbyville Parks and Recreation Department taking second and third respectively. When the 37th annual Shelbyville & Bedford County Christmas Parade passes through town Saturday afternoon, expect to see a lot of uniforms. Police officers and firefighters will be in uniform, of course, and so will the marching bands. But one uniform to keep an eye out for is that of the United States Marine Corps...
Special flag will fly for veterans

The annual Veterans Day parade, beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, will include a special ceremony in front of the Bedford County Veterans Memorial on the square. An Army Ranger who has fought twice in Afghanistan has provided a flag flown in battle which will be raised to half-staff at the memorial once the parade arrives. Bedford County Mayor Eugene Ray will read a special proclamation, and then the flag will be taken down and ceremonially folded...

All three high school bands are expected to participate in this year's Veterans Day parade, local Veterans Service Officer Gordon Warren said on Wednesday. Today is the deadline for entries for Saturday's 36th Annual Christmas Parade, sponsored by Shelbyville Jaycees and Shelbyville & Bedford County Chamber of Commerce. "Candy Canes and Christmas Carols" will be the theme of this year's event. Tiffany Stephens of Shelbyville Jaycees said entries are coming in well; as of 8 a.m. today, about 100 had been turned in, comparable to past parades...
