A powerful surge of electricity ran through telephone lines at Bedford County Courthouse on Sunday morning, melting some of the original lead-clad copper wires to the building and knocking out phone service to many of its offices. As Tennessee observes Severe Weather Awareness Week (Feb. 13-18), local emergency management officials have just installed a new Emergency Manager Weather Information Network (EMWIN) system. The system was installed Friday at Bedford County Emergency Management Agency, said BCEMA assistant director Eugene Nichols, and will be installed in the next few weeks at Bedford County Communications Center.
