Several fire departments fought for six hours to put out a blaze which destroyed a large garage and threatened a nearby home east of Bell Buckle late Monday afternoon. The blaze, which erupted shortly before 4:30 p.m., totally destroyed a three-bay, two-story garage next to the home of Lee Floyd on Highway 82 near the Highway 64 East intersection.

Rachel Bobo was awarded the $10,000 Ray Danner Scholarship during the seventh annual Neill-Sandler Scholars at Middle Tennessee State University the evening of May 17. The Neill-Sandler program recognizes students who have demonstrated academic and personal achievement despite having to cope with difficulties and obstacles.

A robber ran out of a Shelbyville convenience store with only $10 for his efforts late Monday night. The man demanded money after entering the Kangaroo store on South Cannon Boulevard at Lewis Avenue shortly before 10:30 p.m., police said. "He handed (the clerk) a note that read 'do not push the panic button, open the register and give me all the $100s, $20s and $10s (bills),' " Lt. Trey Clanton said...

The contractor for the new Tennessee Rehabilitation Center facility has agreed to extend the warranty on the center's concrete slab for two years (to a total of three), a solution which satisfies the county's architectural firm, Davis Stokes Collaborative. The question now is whether the county commission's budget and finance committee will agree to pay for changes to the project...

Funeral services for Mrs. Bennie Mae Lamb Taylor, 81, of Rover, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rover, where she was a member, with the Rev. Arthur G. Robins officiating. Burial will follow at Simpson Cemetery in Rover.
