A chicken hawk caught, killed and ate a pigeon on Shelbyville's Public Square on Thursday when some folks among Pope's Cafe luncheon crowd couldn't help but notice the hawk's meal of raw squab was being consumed in front of the Norton Law Firm. What's the inner meaning of this conjunction of hawk and pigeon? Is there a lesson to be learned from an Aesop's Fable-like set of circumstances between the door of John Norton's law office and the northeast corner of the Bedford County Courthouse, scene of conflicts over noble horses and, on different days, common weasels.. ...

Action on tire fees deferred (Local News ~ 11/12/05)
Action was deferred on reinstating a fee for tire collection by the Bedford County Solid Waste Authority after the recycling charge was suspended six months ago. Stanley Smotherman said they have been taking in twice the number of tires since the fee was dropped in April. The county had been allowing individuals to recycle 12 tires per year and charging $1 each afterwards. Some of the larger businesses in the county that dispose of tires have already paid a recycling fee to the state... -
Motion tabled on airport land sale (Local News ~ 11/12/05)
A motion was tabled that would have declared 40 acres at the Shelbyville Municipal Airport as surplus property and would have authorized its sale. A buyer is offering $3,000 per acre and plans to have brood mares on the property. With 40 acres, the sale could fetch $120,000 which Airport manager Hank Williamson says could be used to help fund matching grants for the airport... -
