Well, the president made his speech on the immigration issue Monday and the opinions on it are as mixed as they've ever been. Bush stated he was sending 6,000 National Guard troops to the 2,000-mile border, but only to provide intelligence and surveillance support to US Border Patrol agents. The troops will not catch nor detain illegal immigrants...

Boycotts directed against movies and TV shows are often spectacularly counter-productive. In many cases, they give the target product free publicity which results in more people, not fewer, checking it out. In addition, they make it look as if the boycotters are trying to take choices away from people. They turn the powerful positive message of Christianity into a message of nay-saying: "I don't like this movie, so you can't watch it."...

A memorial service for Freeman Y. "Trip" Wheeler III of Wheel, who died May 16 in Colorado Springs, Colo., will be held 4 p.m. MST Thursday at Colorado Springs First Presbyterian Church. Another memorial service will be held locally at a later date, probably at Three Bandits Hunt & Clay Sport Club on Jack Pickle Road, of which Wheeler was owner/operator.

William Edward Anderson Jr., 45, of Shelbyville, died Thursday at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Bird Street Church of Christ, where he was a member, with Anthony Booker officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Mount Cemetery. Blakemore Funeral Home and Directors is in charge of arrangements.
