Former Eagle near end of tour in Iraq

Marine Lance Corporal Brian Dearing of Shelbyville is nearing completion of his duties in Al Asad, Iraq, after being deployed there in February. Dearing, 21, graduated from Shelbyville Central in 2003 and was a two-year special teams player of the year as a kicker for coach Whit Taylor's Golden Eagles. He also played four years of soccer under coach Neal Gordon. He has not ruled out a return to sports after his five-year tour of duty in the Marine Corps...

Elliott Arter Bowman, 67, of Shelbyville, died Wednesday at Emerald Hodgson Hospital in Sewanee. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Funeral Home with the Rev. Drew Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Mount Cemetery.
