Telemetry system may help stem Bell Buckle water losses (Local News ~ 06/13/07)
With an average of a 30 percent water loss this year, Bell Buckle is looking at purchasing a telemetry system to monitor the status of that town's water system. Woman injured when van struck (Local News ~ 06/13/07)
A Wartrace woman was injured this morning on State Highway 64 near Fairfield when her van was struck by an out-of-control logging truck. Darla Huffman, 50, was flown from the scene to Vanderbilt University Medical Center by LifeFlight helicopter. Rezoning request denied for business (Local News ~ 06/13/07)
Bedford County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday night to deny a rezoning at 2506 U.S. 231 North which had been requested by Celebration 2000, an office supply business now located on Madison Street in Shelbyville. Grady Cunningham, who owns the business, had wanted to move from its current leased space to a site that he would own outright. He was asking the county to rezone the site from R-1 (residential) to C-2 (commercial)... -

The world could be coated in lemons and I wouldn't complain. I love the smell, taste and even textures of the lovely, bright yellow fruits. The fact that there is some sour bitterness to them occasionally doesn't bother me a bit. When an waiter takes my order at a restaurant, my order of unsweet tea is always followed by "with lots of lemon."...

Watching for bias in the media

One of this writer's pet peeves is bias in the media, which is done either by between-the-lines editorializing in the story or by careful omission of certain facts to sway the reader to take a certain position on whatever issue is being reported. But if a reader is already well aquatinted with an issue, a story with spin can easily be spotted...

City didn't cause Main Street congestion

Make no mistake -- traffic on Main Street can be a problem. But I had to laugh at some of the comments I heard and read during the recent city election campaign. Apparently, some people think the city government has some sort of secret subterranean lair, deep underground, that tells businesses where they need to locate. Some people seem to think that the city is telling businesses to open on North Main Street rather than the other way around...
