Scam nets almost $1,000 from victim

A Shelbyville woman told police last week she was the victim of a scam. She received a letter containing a check for $980 and information about a "mystery shopper" program for nationally-known department stores, police said. The woman called a contact number in the letter, became convinced the offer was legitimate and deposited the check from "Bank of the West," with orders from the contact to wait 24 hours and call back, according to police...
