You doesn't have to call her Tammy
(Column ~ 04/26/09)
Don't call me Tammy, please. Growing up, no one ever got my name right. It's pronounced Tam-ah-rah, but most people would say Ta-mar-ah or Ta-mare-ah. It all started right after I was born when my uncle and a friend of the family didn't like the name my momma had given me. They didn't know what they wanted to call me, but until they figured it out, they said they were going to call me George...

Though my tears may fall, my hero will remain strong
(Column ~ 04/26/09)
His charisma is unmatched, his charm second to none. His heart is made of pure gold. Yes, he's spoiled -- the only farmer I know who likes the spa as much as Ivana Trump and also has about three assistants who follow him around to perform tasks even the rich do themselves. And, yes again, he can be a bit grumpy at times. But after 45 years of running one of the best dairies in his part of the country, I'd say he's entitled to all of the above...

Letters to the Editor, April 26
(Letter to the Editor ~ 04/26/09)
To the editor: So, Donna Eyman and her friends had a tea party. Good for them. I'm glad the right-wingers have found something to get themselves roused up again; after their November trouncing I've felt lacking in entertainment. While they're out there with their signs, trumpeting non-existent issues, I sure wish one of them would tell me where they were for the last eight years, while Bush and his rubber-stamp congress were shoveling billions in tax-breaks to millionaires and big oil companies. ...

Common sense doesn't inhabit teens' world
(Column ~ 04/26/09)
Why is it the most important thing you have to teach your child is the hardest thing you'll ever have to teach your child? No, I'm not harping on the toilet seat thing again. I'm talking about common sense. I'm talking about explaining to the 16-year-old that when you asked him to wash the whites, you meant underwear, not sheets...

Hold the flash: 'America's Test Kitchen' sticks to the basics (Column ~ 04/26/09)
"America's Test Kitchen," which airs Saturdays on WNPT-TV, Channel 8, bills itself as "public television's most-watched cooking show," and justifiably so. It's not as slick or flashy as the cooking shows on Food Network or other cable channels, but it's both pleasant and informative, something that seems to be a low priority for Food Network at times... -
A quick dish in the slow cooker (Column ~ 04/26/09)
