Shots fired at house as drug deal goes bad

A Shelbyville man has been charged with firing gunshots at a home Tuesday afternoon after a drug deal supposedly gone bad, police said. Derrick Lamont Parrish, 32, of Cedar River Road, is charged with six counts of aggravated assault -- one count for each of the persons in the home -- being a felon in possession of a weapon, possession of schedule VI and IV drugs for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Bedford County Jail records. ...

Local man is state's first swine flu victim

A Shelbyville man became Tennessee's first fatality of the H1N1 virus, also known as the swine flu. According to a Nashville television station, Joey Woodruff, 48, of Shelbyville died a week ago Monday at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
