Unemployment rate drops slightly in April

The county's jobless rate dropped half a percentage point last month to 12.3 percent, according to preliminary figures released Thursday by the state's labor department. The chairman of the city's planning commission wants to take another look at drainage issues following the flooding earlier this month in Nashville. Animal carcass disposal firm to end service soon (Local News ~ 05/30/10)
In 2009, in Bedford County alone, farmers had to dispose of 585 tons of dead cattle, calves, horses and hogs. A great many of those animals were picked up from farms by Kentucky-based Griffin Industries, a service for which the county paid $30,000 in the current fiscal year.
