Shelbyville man accused in Tullahoma holdup

A Shelbyville man is being held in Coffee County on over $100,000 bond after he allegedly robbed a Tullahoma convenience store on New Year's Day. Johnny Charles Cates, 29, of Highway 130 West has been charged with aggravated robbery and is being held under $102,500 bond. Tyson threat proves false (Local News ~ 01/04/11)
No one was allowed in or out of Shelbyville's Tyson Foods facility for 90 minutes Monday afternoon following a bomb threat. But after the West Jackson Street building was checked by company staff, workers were allowed to return to their jobs. According to Tyson Human Resource manager Jeff Watson, a call was received by a receptionist after 1 p.m. from a man who said, "There is a bomb in the plant."... -

Guns were pointed at small children in two home invasions late last week, Shelbyville police said. No shots were fired in the incidents at homes on South Brittain and Quarry streets, in which $120 was taken at one location and a cell phone at the other. n A South Brittain Street resident told police he was attempting to lull his 2-week-old son to sleep shortly after midnight Thursday morning when a man described as black, standing approximately 6 feet tall to 6-foot-2 and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt entered the front door holding what appeared to be a Glock pistol.. ...

Jackson E. "Jack" Heffner, 86 of Shelbyville, died Monday at his son's residence in Cookeville. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer with Father Peter Whalen officiating. Visitation will be held at the family home from 3-6 p.m. Friday. Doak-Howell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
