Local high school basketball coaches, players and fans will be burning up the highway between Bedford County and Huntland over the next eight days. An accident involving a SUV and large truck sent a Unionville-area woman to a Nashville hospital with severe cuts Tuesday afternoon. Torie Smith, 19, of Kingdom Road suffered several deep cuts to the face, legs and arms and had to have her appendix removed due to the impact, family members said. Davis family benefit offers music, auction

A fundraiser to benefit the family of the late Korley Davis is still on for Friday evening. The event, to be held at Calsonic Arena, will kick off at 5 p.m. with live music. The Bedford County community rallied in prayer and support of Korley, who was on life support at Vanderbilt awaiting a double lung transplant for a month, by planning numerous fundraisers to benefit her, including tomorrow's. Bedford County Schools will open one hour late on Friday after having been closed on Thursday, School Superintendent Ed Gray announced just after 3:30 p.m. today.
