Ora Lucille Bailey, 98, of Lynchburg, formerly of Lewisburg, died Sunday morning at Lynchburg Nursing Home after an extended illness. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lone Oak Cemetery in Lewisburg with Rev. Ron DeWitt officiating. Doak-Howell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Copper wire stolen from vacant houses

Copper wiring was removed from two homes for sale in Shelbyville last week, police said. The unoccupied homes are on Ledbetter Street and Chockley Street, just off North Main. Pearlene Trollinger Durant, 81, of Shelbyville died Monday at Glen Oaks Convalescent Center after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bright Temple Church of God in Christ. Burial will follow at Willow Mount Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12 noon at the church. Nelson & Sons Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Runners beat chill for Spooktacular (Local News ~ 10/25/11)
Nearly 150 runners and walkers turned out for the annual Spooktacular 5k and 10k races on a frigid Saturday morning. Despite the cold temps, runners heated up the course and posted blistering times. The races, which were sponsored by the United Way of Bedford County, sought to raise funds for 20 different benefit partner programs.
