Intoxicated driver smashes into parked cars

Heavy damage to three parked vehicles occurred after an allegedly-intoxicated driver drove a U-Haul truck into three vehicles at a downtown used car dealership early Monday, police said. Aaron Mitchell Atkins, 29, Dover Street, told investigators he fell asleep at the wheel and veered into the parking lot of Warren and Associates Auto Sales, North Main Street. An abundance of rain on Wednesday resulted in flooded ditches, full retention ponds and overflowing manholes, which eventually tapered off as the wet stuff ended. Chance for Vols to salvage year rests on final 2 games (Sports Column ~ 11/17/11)
With two games left on the schedule, it appears a losing season is all but inevitable for the 2011-2012 season for the Tennessee Volunteers. The Vols have struggled all year in the SEC, posting an 0-6 record in the conference so far. The Community Clinic was able to offer mammograms at no cost last week, thanks to the efforts of St. Thomas Health and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. City falls in state business study

The city of Shelbyville has dropped to 38th place in a newly released study determining the business climate of the state's 50 largest cities. The study, "How Business-Friendly are Tennessee's Cities?" was released Monday by the Beacon Center of Tennessee, which describes itself as "the state's free market think tank."...

Betty Joyce Powell
(Obituary ~ 11/17/11)
Betty Joyce Powell, 75, of Shelbyville died Wednesday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center of complications from pulmonary fibrosis and pneumonia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel with Geoff Giesemann and Russ Countess officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Mount Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday.
