Moving the Tennessee Walking Horse Futurity to Murfreesboro could end up costing horse owners who were hoping to qualify for the Celebration in August. Missing teenager gone since Monday

Authorities are searching for a 16-year-old boy last seen Monday. Jordan Beavers got out of his father's truck at the North Main Street-Madison Street intersection about 11 a.m. and ran away, police said. The youth went to his home and packed a few items before leaving, a Shelbyville police report said. The report added Beavers has family in the Lewisburg area...

On the loose

More than a dozen cows had a sudden beef with confinement and decided to take a little stroll around Depot Street on Wednesday morning. According to Shelbyville police, the cattle emerged from behind the VFW and lingered around the area of Anthony Lane and Depot Street before checking out the TVA power station. At one time years ago the Tennessee State Rainbow and Brown Trout were caught out of the Obey River near Celina. Today the Obey still fishes very well but there are better places to catch record-breaking trout. However ,there are few places you can catch the sheer numbers of trout that come out of the Obey every day...

Virginia Preston, 88, of Wartrace died Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Hannah officiating. Burial will follow at Haley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m.

Mary Ruth Riggs Motes, 67, of Spring City, formerly of Unionville, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 at Hospice Care Center in Chattanooga.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. EST Saturday at Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City. Burial will follow at Thurman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon-2 p.m. Saturday.
