City recreation workers Greg Lubbock, left, and Steve Landruth were busy planting some 50 new trees by the Duck River at Riverbottom Park. Today is the first day of spring. The new foliage was provided by the Tennessee chapter of the Nature Conservancy, who spent $3,920 to replace the aging trees that are falling into the waterway, and to prevent the erosion of the river bank, with the city supplying labor. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22 at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Nashville with Elder Perry Broadnex and Artie London officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home in Nashville. DeKalb Funeral Chapel of Smithville is in charge of arrangements.
