Unemployment rate rises slightly in city, county

The county's jobless rate jumped half a percentage point in May to 8.6 percent, according to preliminary data released by Tennessee's department of labor and workforce development. An estimated 1,970 people were without a job in Bedford County in May, and out of a labor force of 22,990, an estimated 21,030 were employed. The rate of 8.6 percent unemployment for the county is the same figure reported at this time last year. The revised rate for April 2013 for the county was 8.1 percent...

County tax rate doesn't increase

Bedford County's property tax rate remains unchanged at $2.27 per $100 assessed value for the fiscal year that starts July 1.
