More flooding (Local News ~ 07/12/13)
Just when you thought the Duck River had settled back down, Wednesday night's downpour sent the level of the waterway up some 11 feet in just a 12 hour period, once again flooding Shelbyville's Riverwalk below the Fly Arts Center. The river rose to 16.9 feet by Thursday afternoon before receding, according to the National Weather Service. Flooding earlier in the week left a coating of mud over the Riverwalk area. Action level for the Duck is 21 feet, while 25 feet is considered flood stage. (T-G Photo by Brian Mosely) -

A hot time for chili (Local News ~ 07/12/13)
This weekend, chili-makers from various places will converge on Shelbyville for two separate chili cookoffs -- but readers of the Times-Gazette website, t-g.com, are divided on whether chili is anytime food or just for cool weather. In a non-scientific poll, 56 percent say they save chili for cooler weather, but a still-respectable 44 percent say it's never the wrong time for a bowl of spicy goodness. A regional chili cookoff will be held this evening on the courthouse square, while tomorrow will be the Tennessee state championships. Both events are sanctioned by the International Chili Society.
