I don't know if it's because I have a child who's getting old enough to enjoy the horse show in small bits and pieces, or if it's because the weight of the world seems to be lying on the walking horse industry's shoulders -- or maybe both -- but I'm feeling especially drawn to the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration this year...

SRO of the year (Other Record ~ 08/29/13)
Former Bedford County deputy Kim Moses, who served as a school resource officer, has been named Tennessee School Resource Officer of the Year for 2013. Moses is now a deputy in Williamson County working at Poplar Grove Middle School. She previously served at Shelbyville Central High School. Mike Barnes, president of the Tennessee School Resource Officers Association, presents the award at the group's annual convention. Never Rest work (Local News ~ 08/29/13)
Workers with Outdoor Construction Co. were busy Tuesday putting together new playground equipment at Never Rest Park, replacing play sets that no longer meet federal safety standards. Louise Brown Yeager

Louise Brown Yeager, 92, of Leoma died Aug. 28, 2013 at her home. She was the sister of Helen Garner of Shelbyville. Funeral services will be held at Pettus-Turnbo Chapel in Lawrenceburg at 1 p.m. Saturday with Steve Kelly and Richard Beard. Burial will follow at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday.

Champs want revenge on Rockets (High School Sports ~ 08/29/13)
The Cascade Champions (1-0) haven't beaten the Forrest Rockets (1-0) since 2009 when the Champs put up a 38-7 victory against the Rockets. Since then, it's been a struggle finding success against the former District 9-A rival. Bedford County's recent purchase of the Regions Bank building on the square may be a long-term investment in terms of office space -- Regions Bank still has several years left on its lease, and the county's own lease of space in the US Bank building does as well -- but the building could pay dividends sooner than that as part of a revamp of the county's broadband network...

Orris 'Rocky" Spivey, 77, of Shelbyville died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Doyle officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest Mill Cemetery in Manchester. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m.
