James Franklin Smith, 69, of Pleasant Grove died suddenly Wednesday morning, Sept. 4, 2013 at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Jeffrey Curtis and Philip Crawley officiating. Burial will follow at Houston-Whitworth Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. Saturday. -
SUV suspected in hit-and-run found (Local News ~ 09/04/13)
The SUV believed to have struck a motorcycle, killing the rider, in Shelbyville early Saturday has been recovered in Rutherford County. A Bedford County Jail inmate is in custody after walking away from a job site last week. Marvin Rex Leverette, 25, of Sims Road was charged with jail escape after walking away from the Shelbyville animal shelter, Sheriff Randall Boyce said.
