The Shelbyville Garden Club held its April meeting at Farm Bureau, with 17 members present. Janie Burke and Pat Martin served as hostesses. City budget hit hard by state law

Tawny Spinelli, having survived a parade of foster homes as a child and then homelessness as an adult, served on a committee with other former foster children while a student at Vanderbilt University. She knew her own story, but she asked the others how they managed to beat the odds and rise above challenging, often tragic, circumstances.
