Nancy Carolyn Batte, 71, of Shelbyville died Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Per her request, she will be cremated, and there will be no services. Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Officer Jon Cooke, left, and Maj. Jan Phillips of the Shelbyville Police Department hoist a flag commemorating Police Memorial Day today. Six Shelbyville officers have lost their lives in the line of duty: officers Charles Henry and Redden Purdie, shot Oct. 31, 1911 by a man seeking revenge following his arrest earlier in the day; Chief Sumner A. Dillard, shot by a friend of a suspect being driven away from his home March 2, 1936; officer Floyd T. Collins, who died of a heart attack while on patrol Nov. 27, 1985; Sgt. G.J. Jordan, killed in an accident Jan. 22, 1995 while responding to a call; and officer Melvin Claxton, who collapsed during a foot pursuit Feb. 17, 1999. Bob Bomar, 94, a World War II veteran who founded and was the long-time operator of Shelbyville Municipal Airport, died Wednesday morning at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. The airport lowered its flag to half-staff in his memory.
