Moose Lodge assists animals (Local News ~ 07/10/14)
During June, the Women of the Moose #1817 challenged the members of Loyal Order of the Moose #2197 to donate 1,000 pounds of pet food for use by Bedford County Animal Control, Shelbyville Animal Control, and Shelbyville & Bedford County Humane Association. The men met the challenge with the assistance of local businesses including Landers Tire, Joel's Tire & Brake, Cascade Collision Center, Molder Outdoor Power, Primetime, Shelbyville Lumber, Rob Gardner State Farm Insurance, and Jeff Reed. A man out on bond after a previous drug arrest was charged again with possession of marijuana. Tristan David McMahon, 23, of Barksdale Lane, was arrested after investigators discovered a bag of marijuana -- also containing a handgun -- at his home. Investigators searched the residence after marijuana was found in a vehicle during a traffic stop nearby... -
Nazarenes meeting in Shelbyville (Local News ~ 07/10/14)
The East Tennessee District of the Church of the Nazarene is holding its 67th annual assembly convention at First Church of the Nazarene in Shelbyville. On Wednesday, the district's Nazarene Missions International (NMI) division held its convention. The church was adorned with flags of various nations. Between 600 to 700 Nazarene delegates from 70 churches in East and parts of Middle Tennessee were expected to attend the conference, which ends tonight. (T-G Photos by Jason Reynolds) -

Next week, the public works department will hold its summer cleanup on regular garbage days from Monday through Thursday, hauling away almost anything left by the street. Every Shelbyville home will soon have one of its own residential roll out garbage containers. Public works director Mark Clanton tentatively anticipates that crews can start distribution by the first week of August -- depending on how quickly they are shipped. Distribution is expected to take two to three weeks...
