Officer 'immobilizes' fleeing suspect with taser

A man who a Shelbyville police officer said appeared to be possibly reaching for a weapon was "immobilized" by a taser early Thursday. Ronald Douglas Yates, 47, of Dunnaway Street allegedly reached into his right front pants pocket while running from officer David Dye into a wooded area near an Oak Street residence shortly after 4 a.m. A "large, folding pocket knife" was found in that pocket following Yates' arrest, police said...

The Tennessee Department of Education on Thursday announced Tennessee students made significant gains in all high school subjects and in the majority of subjects in grades 3-8 except reading.
