Chili cheese fries have unexpected effect

A couple was arrested after an argument over chili cheese fries at a Shelbyville fast food restaurant Tuesday, police said. Lt. James Wilkerson said he was passing Krystal, Madison Street, and saw Bill Rex Adams, 45, of Sims Road, and Danessa Michelle Zwarton, 35, "striking each other" as their truck left the parking lot with the horn blowing. Scam Watch: 'Winner' scammed out of $4,400

A Shelbyville woman spent more than $4,400 sent to her as what she thought was part of a contest prize. Today she's out the $4,400 she used to pay bills -- with no way to pay it back -- after learning the check was bad. The woman received the check for $4,410.35 for "insurance" from what she thought was a firm called Citizen Brokerage and Financial Service, Shelbyville police said Wednesday. An accompanying letter said $245,589.65 in prize winnings would be mailed to her...

Smoking cessation class offered

The Community Clinic of Shelbyville and CVS Health are hosting a free class series that helps people understand the nature of tobacco addiction and how they can stop smoking. Judge dismisses lawsuit against jail

Another handwritten suit against the Bedford County jail has been dismissed by a federal judge. Joseph Richard Fredrickson had demanded $750,000 in damages for suffering, distress and mental and emotional pain. U.S. District Judge Curtis L. Collier dismissed the suit this week, since Fredrickson failed to make a filing fee or an application to proceed in "forma pauperis" -- a Latin legal term meaning "in the character or manner of a pauper."...

Moving Wall to visit Bell Buckle

Marsha Monks Harden, 56, of Shelbyville died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015 at Centennial Hospital in Nashville. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Higgins Funeral Home in Fayetteville with Jim Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Kirkland Cemetery.
