Surprise visitor (Local News ~ 06/29/16)
Larry Joyce of Edd Joyce Road near Deason was surprised to find this rattlesnake outside his home recently, Joyce found the snake after he noticed the family cat stalking it. The snake had nine buttons. Joyce wanted to carry it away from the area near the home and turn it loose but his wife, Brenda, insisted he kill it. (Submitted photo) -

I wasn't around for the state championships by the Golden Eaglette basketball teams, I didn't see Peyton Manning quarterback Tennessee, and I never knew a connection for Pat Summitt, other than she was a really good coach for a really long time... -

An account to help the family of Evangeline Irene Dunn, the infant daughter of Nellie Wheeler and Bryant Dunn Jr., with expenses has been set up at First Bank on Madison Street. The account is in Nellie Wheeler's name. Evangeline, born March 22 at Vanderbilt Medical Center, has several medical problems including congestive heart failure and Down syndrome. Digestive problems have led to one bowel surgery already with another due shortly and heart surgery to follow... -

Judicial center land to be costly

Members of the Bedford County Commission's finance committee were updated on the progress of talks with owners of potential locations for a new Bedford County jail and judicial center Thursday. Four of 16 owners of properties at the location bordered by Depot, Thompson, East Lane and Deery streets are asking $2,860,000 for their portions of land, comprising 9.5 of 21.25 acres making up the area, finance director Robert Daniel said...
