The Heart of the Home FCE club met at Miller's in Christiana on July 13. All members were present. Marie Spence, President, reported on the July County Council meeting. The state convention was discussed and will be held in Murfreesboro on Nov. 2 with registeration due Oct. 30. Each club will furnish five crafted items. These items are due the week before the convention. Each member of the club will craft an item. Ruth Owens was appointed to serve on the 2017 Achievement Night Committee...

Hargrove elected to serve PD conference

The Tennessee District Public Defenders Conference has elected Donna Orr Hargrove to serve as its vice president for fiscal year 2016-2017. As vice president, Hargrove will also serve as a member of the conference's Executive Committee. Hargrove is public defender for the 17th Judicial District, which includes Bedford, Lincoln, Marshall and Moore counties. ...

Driver hits fire truck after smoking pot

A woman who told police she'd smoked marijuana an hour earlier was charged after backing into an oncoming Shelbyville Fire Department truck on an emergency run Sunday morning. Seventeen indicted by county grand jury

Seventeen suspects were arraigned Monday by the July session of the Bedford County grand jury. Among them are Harley Edward Caffee, 20, and Fredrick Buford, 19, both of Barksdale Lane, who are both charged in a burglary spree of several buildings in eastern Shelbyville over Thanksgiving weekend 2015. Caffee allegedly broke into Musgrave Pencil Co. himself shortly afterwards...

First Baptist Church on Depot Street has a red-and-white Pokemon logo in rotation on its electronic marquee after discovering that it was home to two "Pokestops" in the hit smartphone game "Pokemon Go." "We have two locations on our campus," said the church's media specialist, Katie Thomas. She said the church was happy to have another avenue to interact with the community. Palmer, Eagles greet fans (High School Sports ~ 07/19/16)
It was a very busy week for new Shelbyville Central head football coach Justin Palmer, but a very productive week as well. It was all capped off by a parents meeting followed by a Meet and Greet with the coach on Friday evening. "We had a good first week. We got a lot done and participated in two 7-on-7 tournaments, one in Smyrna and the other at Riverdale," Palmer said.
