The Butler's Creek FCE met July 18 at the University of Tennessee / Tennessee State University Extension Office. The meeting was called to order by Barbara Troxler, with Brenda Gregory reading "The American Flag." Debbie Crosslin read the Devotion from the 1988 FCE Devotional Book. Stolen wallet, other scattered items found

A speaker and iPod were stolen from an unlocked car on Eventine Drive overnight Sunday, Shelbyville police were told Tuesday. The victim found his wallet, also stolen from the car, in a fence row Monday. A laptop computer, two tablets, two iPods, eight video games, two watches. jewelry and clothing were among items dumped on the porch of a home on Seventh Street in Bell Buckle around 1 a.m. Wednesday...

Bedford County Fair will be held from July 25-30. Gates open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 4 p.m. and Wednesday and Saturday at 9 a.m. The carnival midway will open on Monday, not Tuesday as in the past. Motlow to administor HiSET test

Motlow State Community College will administer the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) several times throughout the remainder of 2016. Test locations will be in Winchester and on the Motlow State Fayetteville, Smyrna and Moore County campuses. A high school diploma remains the primary ticket to many entry-level jobs. ...

Parks director speaks to veterans (Local News ~ 07/21/16)
Mike Alsup, director of Shelbyville Parks and Recreation, spoke to a recent meeting of the Vietnam Era Veterans. Alsup outlined the many activities that are available for veterans at the facility, such as swimming, exercise classes and walking. Shelter gains $73K grant for upgrades

Bedford County Animal Control is receiving a $73,000 grant from PetSmart Charities for shelter improvements, director Jack Cooper said during Tuesday night's meeting of Bedford County Board of Commissioners' law enforcement and workhouse committee. DREMC activates "Beat The Peak" program due to heat

Sweltering conditions caused by a major heat wave across the TVA region will result in Shelbyville-based Duck River Electric Membership Corporation (DREMC) activating its Beat the Peak program from 3-5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, July 22-23. Douglas Armstrong, 71, of Shelbyville died Wednesday, July 20, 2016. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Jim Tedder will officiate, with burial to follow in Willow Mount Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday.
